“My work focuses on the relationships we develop with ourselves and our environment. By recreating the intimate and unspoken parts of our lives, my aim is to reconnect ourselves through empathy and growth. I accomplish this through the use of multimedia sculptures, paintings, and ceramics.”
Jacob Stiltner’s works provide a statement for the connection with the past and the role of the environment in shaping the self. As our environment changes, we can’t help but change alongside it, forever morphing through the actions of those around us. As Jacob puts it, “Only time makes us realize that change is as inevitable as age”.
The home is one of the most central parts of our inner being, and one Jacob explores the most. In this series, he presents carefully-crafted paintings illustrating views of his home, be it the kitchen, hallway, living rooms, etc. A commonplace scene that turns into a form of artistic expression not because of what is it or what it is made of, but because of the environment it showcases and how it has affected those around it. The artist writes “These paintings of my home are in a specific moment in time. A time in which moving back in with family is inescapable. The present is always fleeting, always here and always gone. These moments we cherish and want to keep; store somewhere safe, to take with us.”
Jacob Stiltner is an American artist born and raised in Miami, Florida. He received his Associate in Arts from Miami Dade College and his Bachelor of Arts from Florida International University.
Jacob recreates forms that are typically found in the home that then reconnect back to the human body and mind. Many of these pieces build on themes of health and relationships between our family and ourselves.
